Youth Voice Observatory
The Youth Voice Observatory brings together information about Youth Voice practices across the UK so that anyone with an interest in youth voice can learn more about good practice and what we are learning from young people.
Visit the Observatory here.
This site will help us to understand:
-
Who is being reached through youth voice activities;
-
What key messages young people are sharing;
-
What methods are being used to capture young people’s voices; and
-
Some learning on how effective these methods are.

Note
This is our first iteration of the Youth Voice Observatory, and we have been working with our Practitioner Panel and Youth Voice Ambassadors to co-develop it. We’d love to hear thoughts on how to make it better - let us know if you spot something strange or unexpected!
What is the data telling us?
1. What are the most used methods to capture youth voice activity?
2. Where is youth activity happening? (UK region)
3. What are the most popular methods used to engage specific groups?
What are we learning so far?
- The most commonly used types of voice activities are facilitated conversations e.g. focus groups, interviews
-
The topics young people are sharing are predominantly mental health, and crime or violence involving young people
-
Most youth voice activities take place in London and North West of England region, with fewest in Scotland .
-
Whilst most activities are open access, when groups are targeted, the most commonly targeted group is young people with lived experience of the criminal justice system and global majority groups, with the least commonly targeted groups being young parents, and young people in secure settings.
About the dataset itself:
We are not seeing as much data on the impact of youth voice activities, suggesting more evidence is needed in this area.
